What Blocks Coogee's Drains
The streets running back from the beach carry a real mix: Federation cottages, older beach houses and mid-rise blocks built up steadily since the 1930s.
Different eras, but the same problem underneath. Whichever decade a place went up in, its drain is old enough now to be part of the issue.
Grit off the beach is the constant. Fine sand rides in on the wind and works down through gully traps into the pipe itself, settling wherever the flow slows down.
On its own, sand rarely stops a line completely. Paired with a joint that's already narrowed by age or a root, it's often the difference between a slow drain and a full blockage.
We see this most around Coogee Bay Road, where beach traffic and older housing sit side by side. A drain cleaning visit clears the sand before it compounds; a CCTV drain inspection checks what else is narrowing the same line.
Up toward Goldstein Reserve, the grassed foreshore reserve along the promenade, the same windblown sand crosses straight over the park and into the yards behind it. A property doesn't need beach frontage to pick up the same grit; it just needs to be downwind on the wrong day.

Services That Fit Coogee's Drains
Sand and an old, mixed-era pipe stock between them drive most of the calls we take here.
Drain cleaning flushes out sand and silt before it compounds into something worse. CCTV drain inspection finds why a line's running slow without breaking ground.
Blocked drain repair puts right whatever joint has actually failed. Blocked stormwater covers a gully system that can't keep pace in a downpour. Blocked sewer handles a shared line dragging more than one household into the same fault.
A lot of this housing turns over as rentals rather than staying with the same owner for decades, young professionals mostly, in a mix of houses and units.
That means we're often the ones explaining a sand problem to a tenant seeing it for the first time, rather than a long-term owner who already knows the drill, whichever era their building actually belongs to.

Drain Problems We See Around Coogee
Beyond the sand, three other faults come up again and again on this run.
- Tree roots. Established gardens on the older streets send roots looking for moisture wherever an old joint has opened up. Sealing that joint properly through blocked drain repair is what actually stops the return visits.
- Earthenware pipe. Plenty of the pre-1940 cottages still run original clay drainage, and clay cracks with age whether or not a root's ever touched it. A CCTV drain inspection pinpoints the failed section without a shovel involved.
- Storm surcharge. The steeper streets above the bay send runoff down hard and fast, more than the beachfront's older stormwater lines were ever sized to handle. Blocked stormwater sorts the surcharge.
Each one looks a little different once the camera's actually down there, which is exactly why we run it first rather than guessing from the symptoms alone. Sand narrows a line gradually; a cracked joint or an intruding root tends to show up sharper on screen.

Emergency
Drain Emergency in Coogee?
A drain that won't stop coming back up, or a toilet stuck refilling. Don't sit on either one.
- Sewage pushing back up through a floor waste
- A toilet that refills but never actually clears
- More than one drain acting up together
- A new smell that keeps returning
- Water sitting against the house after rain
- Slow drainage in a unit that shares a stack with the flat next door
Ocean swimmers still head to Wylie's Baths and McIver's Ladies Baths on the southern headland right through winter, so demand here barely eases in the cold months. (02) 9139 8009 gets you a real person on the line, day or night, all year.
Around Coogee Oval and Dolphin Point
Coogee Oval sits behind the beach off Brook Street, and the older homes ringing the ground carry the same mixed-era drainage every other pocket here does, sand included.
At the other end of the beach, the properties near Dolphin Point on the northern headland take the same salt-laden wind straight off the water, so a sand problem there tends to show up before it does further back from the coast.
Grant Reserve, on the southern clifftop where the tidal baths sit, backs onto some of the oldest housing on this stretch. Camera work on that pocket regularly turns up the same narrowed, sand-loaded joints we see everywhere else close to the water.

Minutes Away, and Worth the Call
A job on this stretch never starts from zero for us, because Waverley sits right alongside it.
Mixed-era housing like this throws up plenty of look-alike faults, and we can usually tell a sand problem from a root problem before the camera's even down.
This pocket falls under Randwick City Council, and being nearby means more of the visit goes into actually working, less into getting here.
Outdoor fittings on this stretch also cop constant salt off the ocean, gully grates included, so a corroded fitting sitting next to a sand-narrowed joint isn't unusual. We flag the fitting while we're already there for the drain, rather than making it a separate call-out.

Our Process on Every Coogee Job
1. Call and get a straight answer. Arrival window and a fixed number, settled before anyone drives out.
2. The camera goes down before the tools come out. We identify the actual fault first.
3. Then we clear it with whatever it actually needs. Sand and silt get the jetter, roots get the eel.
4. One more pass of the camera, and that's the invoice. What's on screen matches what you agreed to pay.

Common questions
Common Coogee FAQs
Quick answers to what comes up most.
Is the seniors discount available for jobs down here?
Yes, 10% comes off for seniors on any job on this stretch, no different to anywhere else we work.
How fast can a plumber actually get here?
Thirty minutes, guaranteed, arrival tracked from the call. Distance from Waverley doesn't change that number.
Would you come out for a single blocked toilet, or only the bigger jobs?
We treat a single fixture the same as a full clear. Same guarantee, same fixed price, no job too small to book.
Can I see proof the drain's actually running clear afterwards?
Yes. You get the same camera footage we do, run before we touch anything and again once the job's done.
How local is the team, really?
We're on this beachside run constantly, with Waverley next door, so the streets and the housing here aren't a mystery to us.
Can you fix a collapsed section without digging up the whole yard?
In most cases. Relining rebuilds a failed section from the inside using the existing pipe as the mould, so nothing above ground needs to move.
